I'd heard all of these before (and agreed and loved them), except the one about turning our homes back into mere houses when guests are expected. SO true.
I definitely used to have a lot of trouble with that. Now, thanks in part to FlyLady and in part to the ROH True Woman study last summer, I try to keep my focus on blessing my guests rather than impressing them. It's still a work in progress, but I'm a whole lot less stressed about people coming over than I used to be!! (and as a result, it happens more often, too!)
Phyllis Diller used to say she had a stash of "Get Well" cards that she pulled out and placed on the mantle when unexpected guests arrived and her house was a mess! That way it would at least LOOK as if she had a good excuse! Much better to not let it go that far!
Goodness Heather these are wonderful quotes! I agree, I want my guests to feel welcome even when my house is a mess. I don't want to be the mess surrounded by a clean house!
